As usual, our journey started at 7am and we reached sharp on time. This was the first time I drove at the top speed of 150km/hour, experienced the ‘Fast & Furious’ driving mode. Although it was less safe, yet I really enjoyed the adrenaline rush. But as usual, Jothi warned me to slow down. Sigh...I had to listen to her. So I reduce it to 110km/hour. Oh God!!!
Anyway, we reached sharp at 8am and waited for Dr.Abu Hashim (Medical Officer of Health 1) in the meeting room. The meeting room was really superb, the elegance and professional environment of the room gave an awesome treat to our eyes. Everyone excitedly took photos at various poses.

Around 8.15am Dr.Mohd Hisham (Medical Officer of Health 2) came down on behalf of Dr.Abu Hashim, as he couldn’t make it on that day. Dr.Hisham briefed us regarding the health infrastructures of the DHO and other health facilities under his purview. The structure, function of the various levels of health care, budget allocation and many more details about health infrastructure were discussed during the session. The discussion with Dr.Hisham ended at 10am.

Next up, we had a discussion with sister Pn.Hjh.Salmah regarding Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and Nutrition. Amongst the issue discussed includes pre-pregnancy care (PPC), antenatal care, neonatal care and postnatal care. One of my group mates asked about Food Basket, a service provided to malnourished children from low-income family. Pn.Hjh.Salmah also briefly touched on another similar new programme called, Bakul Satu Azam. But she was not able to explain much detail about it compared to details of Food Basket.

We end our morning session by visiting the MCH clinic. Not forgetting, thanks to the suggestion of some of the group members, Pn.Hjh.Salmah also managed to arrange for us to join a School Health Programme on coming Wednesday. All of us are very excited to go for it, as this will be our first outdoor activity during this posting. Check out the review about that visit on Day 3 article.

After a lengthy morning session, most of us could hear growls of our hungry stomach. We went to Star Parade, a famous shopping complex in Alor Setar and had our lunch in a restaurant there.
For the post-lunch session, we met Mr.Yong Phooi Wah (Health Inspector of Geriatric Health Department) at 2.30pm. He briefed us about geriatric health. He enlightened us with lots of issues regarding the senior citizens, not only their health status, but also their social aspects.
